A series of moisture laden fronts have passed through western Canada to deliver a bumper base and an exciting season for those north of the border.<\/p>\n
With the exception of Vancouver’s local mountains where they have been fighting rain all season, interior mountains and higher on the coast range have done much better.<\/p>\n
Interior British Columbia at Big White has received almost two feet of snow in the past 24 hours which is one of the biggest single storms there on record. Big White is generally known for a build up of smaller storms over a period of days (I remember being there in 2006 when it snowed all but one day in January), though this delivered the white blanket via express post.<\/p>\n
Other resorts nearby have scored well from the storm, though none better than the sweet spot found by Big White.<\/p>\n
More so renowned for family friendly and intermediate friendly terrain, Big White also has some great steeps. If you are in the area, check out the raw terrain off the Falcon Chair, or the heart pumping chutes off the aptly named Cliff Chair and tell me they aren’t great advanced lines. On powder days like today, these areas would have been must do spots for sure.<\/p>\n
With more snow in the forecast for the area, there’s plenty more fun to be had. The great thing about a lot of these Canadian resorts as well is that there are fresh tracks to be found for days after the new snow because they simply don’t get the same traffic volume as some of the major resorts… especially in the middle of January!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
