Apex Mountain scored well with recent snow - Image: Apex Mountain Resort

This latest storm has yielded some impressive totals for Canadian resorts despite most of them being yet to open. A few impressive photos came through initially sparking our interest, though reports of 54cm at Apex certainly has us drooling. Yep, that’s almost 2 feet for my American friends (a University degree helped me figure that out).

Other resorts of Western Canada also scored out of the storm, though Apex seem to have top up the most. We can expect some more snow to return to the area following a brief respite, with Whistler getting hammered from Wednesday morning into Thursday with up to a foot. It doesn’t end there as the same system moves across British Columbia and helps other resorts toward season opening as well.

Looking further ahead, the end of the weekend could also spell the onset of another storm with a lot of moisture headed for the area. At this stage it is too hard to tell how much will fall and to what levels, though it certainly looks like a serious chance for more big snow at this stage.

In the USA, snow should greet Lake Tahoe resorts for their season debut this weekend, though snowfall totals are a little hard to put our finger on at this stage. We expect up to about 5 inches to freshen things up there. Heavenly is set to open with access to the mountain via the Gondola in the Heavenly Village. You will then be able to access the Tamarack Express for California Trail, Tamarack Return and Ante Up Terrain Park. They are also snowmaking on Orion’s and Big Dipper Runs and expect them open soon with a combination of snowmaking, natural snowfalls and a little luck.

"Arapahoe

A nice little top up for Arapahoe Basin today - Image: Arapahoe Baasin

Colorado is also expecting some more snow this weekend after a surprise little storm topped things up nicely today (several resorts reporting a few inches). Saturday looks most likely to deliver the goods from this far out, though again, just a few inches seems the likely number. With this added snowfall and man made snow, Keystone resort is looking to open some more terrain tomorrow, so we will keep our eyes out for an update there.

Keep us posted if there is something you would like to hear more or less about in our daily reports, though remember that we’ll see you, on the mountain.
