What a crazy two days it has been! On Saturday evening, we made the late decision to drive over Vail pass and brave the near blizzard conditions, so that we could taste some of the deeper snow that had fallen in the area. As Joel Gratz from OpenSnow will tell you, different winds favor different resorts and the last few days have certainly favored Breck.<\/p>\n
After Vail had just a few inches, Breck was reporting 10 inches and we had to check it out for ourselves. On the Sunday morning, we were lucky enough to be a part of Breck’s media shoot and enjoyed some secret stashes that are well known by the local media team. Yes, we can confirm that Breck’s powder videos are shot ON RESORT and indeed their regular powder videos are most certainly shot when the lifts are open to the public! The secret is to know where to go to get fresh powder stashes!<\/p>\n
The skiing and riding were incredible. Deep, fluffy and loads of fun. It was one of those days where you could comfortably jump off just about anything at the resort and guarantee a soft landing.<\/p>\n
Here’s where it got really interesting… Bryan was due to head back to California on Sunday evening and we left Breck satisfied that this had been an awesome day. There was one problem. Sunday afternoon on the i70 back to Denver was appalling at best. We heard reports later that some motorists had sat in traffic for 10 hours that afternoon! Needless to say, with a forecast of another half a foot or more, we opted to stay on another evening and ride the pow AGAIN on Monday. Life doesn’t get much better than this.<\/p>\n
So, to answer a question I get asked a lot: “how good is Breckenridge on a powder day?”<\/p>\n
