If you woke up in the town of Whitefish this morning and simply looked out the window, there\u2019s no way you could have any idea how good the skiing and snowboarding was going to be at the resort.<\/p>\n
As I pulled the blinds up and peered out the window, all I saw was a repeat of the previous week. It looked wet outside. My heart sank.<\/p>\n
Until…<\/p>\n
I took a look at the snow report and the resort was suggesting that 5 inches had fallen at the top of the mountain and it was snowing in the village.<\/p>\n
Still sceptical, we grabbed a quick breakfast and headed out for some of the first chairs of the day.<\/p>\n
The wait at Chair One was no more than two minutes and it was by far the longest lift line we experienced today. And yes, it was a powder day on a Saturday. Go figure!<\/p>\n
Once we arrived at the top of the mountain, the visibility was pretty good and only improved as we rode through the day. The great news was that it was still snowing quite heavily.<\/p>\n
Temperatures hovered in the 20\u2019s all day which was perfect to maintain the brilliant snow condition and ensure anything that fell was light and dry.<\/p>\n
To say we were pleasantly surprised would be an understatement as the snow up high was wind loaded and deep, especially on the back side.<\/p>\n
Together, we enjoyed some boot deep turns in many spots on the mountain and as long as you stayed away from the crowds, there were fresh turns to be had all day without much effort at all and we figure tomorrow morning will be more of the same.<\/p>\n
The tip is to stay up high though as the snow on the top half of the mountain is far superior to the bottom half given the snow levels during the week. Bowls, trees, chutes, steeps and groomers on the upper slopes are all in superb condition and it\u2019s going to be a real shame to have to leave the town that has given us such a great time in this past week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
