Vail Snow Report – 17th January 2013

Today at Vail was absolutely glorious! Temperatures reached just above freezing and there was not a single sign of a cloud all day. We expect this is the way things will stay as well at least for the next week, which is great news if you want perfect skiing conditions, but not so great if you are waiting for some new snow.

It should remain dry across most of the west for this period as well, though some snow should be falling across the east if that is where you are heading.

Also, we are proud to say that finally, Pete Kvist learns to snowboard in today’s snow report! Considering Pete has spent hundreds of days on the snow, it’s strange to think that has spent a total of only a few hours on a board.

Luckily, Pete obviously listened to all the instructors over the years and ended up doing quite well. Although we are never sure whether we should believe him, Pete tells us he was able to cruise blue runs at Vail and even attempted a black run (on his butt, we think). Either way, it sounds like he had an awesome time and I don’t think that is the last time we will see Pete on a snowboard this season.

Enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures and we’ll see you on the mountain.

Enjoyed this? Here’s some other stuff we think you’ll find is awesome too!

Pete Kvist began skiing in Australia over 20 years ago and has been addicted to skiing and all things snow ever since. He has worked several seasons on the mountain as a lift operator and has also spent some time in ski resort media departments (so yes, he knows the tricks of the trade).
