Breckenridge Opening Day 2011

Kicking things off in style, the party is already certainly well and truly underway at Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado for the 50th anniversary opening day 2011. And, like all good parties, it seems the best presents have been reserved for the guests.

This morning was another superb show of appreciation to the local community as you could score a free coffee mug, with free coffee at a number of locations around town if you were smart enough to be out of bed early. It reminded me of a saying a friend of mine used to say all the time; “the only way coffee could ever get any better was if it was free”. True that.

Coffee aside, Breckenridge is gearing up for its 50th anniversary season and you can really feel the buzz around town for the 11/11/11 openning. After a massive season in 2010/2011 which saw a number of snowfall records tumble and an abundance of powder days, expectations are high with La Nina once again showing her wonderful face (even though Breck is on the edge of an area which usually benefits from this weather pattern).

Tomorrow morning, bright and early the lifts will start turning. Though if this is not incentive enough alone to get you out of bed and into your ski gear, then what about more cool free stuff? 1,111 cup cakes will also usher in the new season and to be honest, a few turns are probably what the doctor ordered to work off those extra calories. Cup cakes for breakfast? You bet!

The weather is looking as though it will be a treat, with the National Weather Service calling for temps in the high 30’s, sunshine and light to moderate winds. With more snow expected over the weekend though, it will most certainly not be long before powder days return.

Then, if you are still standing in the afternoon, why not stumble back to the T-Bar and try out the beer that has been custom made for Breck’s 50th anniversary, and enjoy the tunes from the Universally Famous Rocket Surgeons.

Sounds like a good start to the season to me.

For more information, check out the Breckenridge website, or check out their twitter feed or facebook page (after you check out ours first of course). Enjoy the season opener for Breckenridge and congratulations on the 50th anniversary.

Enjoyed this? Here’s some other stuff we think you’ll find is awesome too!
