Why You Absolutely Must Ski At Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Revelstoke Powder Turns

Every time I go to a ski resort or ski town, no matter how many times I have been there, I find something new. Unfortunately, due to many circumstances some resorts I only get to ski for a few days, and some resorts for only one day.

As you can imagine, it is very hard for any resort and town to make an impression after just one 24 hour period, though Revelstoke Mountain Resort not only left an impression, but left a long lasting memory which leaves me craving that next trip for British Columbia powder.

It was 7 years ago now but I can clearly remember that the season was off to a great early start, before a big dry spell during January and February. When we arrived, it was almost instantaneous that the snow began to fall… and just not quit.

By memory, the reports were for just over a foot of snow or around 35cm from the time the lifts had closed to the time we rode the gondola up first thing in the morning.

As you can imagine, the day that we had was just incredible. The snow that fell was not only light and dry but the powder seemed deeper than almost anything I had ever skied in my life.

The snow was blowing up into my face making it hard to breathe on almost every turn and although there seemed like a long lift line in the morning, the crowds just seemed to vanish and one hour later, you would swear there was less than a dozen people on the entire mountain.

So what can we make of journalists who turn up to that same resort just one day earlier than we arrived. They would have come across quite a bit of ice, poor conditions on the lower slopes and the snowpack well below average. Would they be leaving the same review? Probably not. And that’s probably why this resort gets left out of “top 10” lists.

You just can’t make a call on a ski resort after skiing there for just one day. However, I honestly still believe that the Revelstoke experience would still be fantastic over a longer period of time given the outstanding terrain options they have, short lift lines and the second biggest vertical drop in North America.

And we haven’t even begun to talk about the town. It seems as though a lot of ski towns although they claim to be historic, actually have been almost swept away by modern development and commercialization. Revelstoke is certainly not one of these towns as the tourist dollars just haven’t begun to flow like they have for some of the more accessible ski towns throughout North America.

The Town of Revelstoke

There’s everything you need from convenience stores to multiple bars and restaurants, not to mention plenty of lodging options.

So why haven’t I been back in the last 7 years if it was so good? I can’t really give you an answer to that other than the fact that there is a lot of other ski resorts throughout the world I’d love to sample before I set down my roots at any one particular location.

What I can be sure of is that myself and my family will return one day to Revelstoke and I’ll be sure to let you know if the snow and the terrain is as good as I remember.

Enjoyed this? Here’s some other stuff we think you’ll find is awesome too!
