St Johann Tirol Austria Snow Report – Leap Year Day 2012

This leap year snow report comes from St Johann, Tirol in Austria.

Unfortunately, the warm temperatures did arrive and conditions have become extremely variable throughout Europe.

Warmer temperatures in Tirol Austria

Although the snow pack is still very good, the warmer daytime temperatures have meant that skiing can range anywhere from very good in the protected, shadowed treelined areas, though to icy, soft and slushy and very ordinary in the exposed parts.

Although we are hopeful for more snow, we are just happy to be out and enjoying turns in the sunshine at the moment.

With the higher sun angle as the days get longer, you can expect the sun to play havoc with surface conditions, so any powder days aren’t really expected to keep the snow in good condition after the clouds clear.

Thanks again to Geoff in Tirol for sharing his thoughts!

Enjoyed this? Here’s some other stuff we think you’ll find is awesome too!
