Ski Resort Conditions and Weather Forecasts

Northstar Snow Report – 7th February 2016

Ideal sunny and warm spring conditions in Lake Tahoe, except for the fact there is a deep base… and it’s early February.

We know that the ladies love watching the male presenters on Snow Report TV, but today we welcome a guest reporter, Kendall Lou Schmidt. Kendall is a fitness model, trainer, writer and as she describes herself, “a bad ass chick”. No matter how you describe her, it was great to ride the mountain with her today and we already look forward to her returning to SRTV. Connect with Kendall via her facebook fan page linked above.

So on to mountain conditions and it was as good as it looked. Warm, sunny and superb.

As we discussed on a run today though, you can’t attack the mountain in conditions like this the same you would when it is a powder day. Among the trees, the snow has set hard in the freeze thaw and it is barely rideable in spots, or at least it’s not much fun. Having said that, if you wait until the daily thaw sets in early afternoon, you can find some lovely turns in the softer snow. It can be a bit of a lottery though if you don’t think carefully about sun angle and aspect.

Days like today were made for friends cruising groomers, having fun in the park and generally cruising around the resort. Not to mention the obligatory lunch and beer stop in the sunshine.

As you can imagine, the crowds started out reasonably busy this morning, though thinned out quickly as people set for their superbowl parties. For us, we enjoyed the quiet on the hill until perfect timing put us back on the couch in Truckee just in time for kickoff!

In the forecast, it is going to be dry as a dead dingoes donger this week before (hopefully) the system breaks down next weekend, though we will keep a close eye on that. For now, enjoy the 50 degree days this week and stay in the soft snow.

Enjoyed this? Here’s some other stuff we think you’ll find is awesome too!
