Ski Resort Conditions and Weather Forecasts

How Much Snow Did They Get At Wolf Creek?

There was a lot of speculation as to how much snow would fall in Colorado over the weekend and in particular at Wolf Creek. Several different forecast models were in agreement that conditions would favor the resorts further south and they were spot on.

Joel Gratz from Open Snow was as per usual bang on the money with his forecast and to prove that he believed the hype, guess where he was? Yep. Wolf Creek. Wouldn’t that be nice. Taking a “fact finding” mission to Wolf Creek when a foot of powder is expected to fall at a time when the resort is nearly empty due to the fact the season has barely kicked off.

To be honest, we still have many friends in Denver squeezing the last out of Fall, with hiking, biking and outdoor activities on many minds. Just a short drive away and Wolf Creek is bathing in the outstanding start to the 2011/2012 season. I know where we would rather be!

Although weather forecasting can be a little hit and miss at the best of times, it’s good to know that some forecasters are much more passionate about what they do, because their powder days depend on it.

Thanks Joel for once again reminding us how good your forecasting is and rubbing it in with a video like this! The message for all of us is to stop thinking Fall and start thinking Winter. Wolf Creek in Colorado sounds good, don’t you think?

Enjoyed this? Here’s some other stuff we think you’ll find is awesome too!
